List of daily distances covered, with water tanks and towns or stops on the way.

Day 1. Adelaide to Port Wakefield. 98 km. Semi-rural with a number of small towns on way.

Day 2. Pt Wakefield to Pt Pirie . 99 km. Drink at small store at Lochiel. Lunch at petrol station at Red Hill turn-off. Rural and undulating country.

Day 3. Pt Pirie to Pt Augusta. 92km .Short drink stop at Port Germein, a small town a few km off the highway. Stayed at Standpipe Motel just north of Port Augusta.

Day 4. Pt Augusta to Woomera. 185 km. Water from a pipe at the point where road crosses the railway (about 50 km from Pt A) and at a pull-off parking area some distance further on. A few big hills south of Pimba. Turn off to Woomera at Pimba Roadhouse, which looked a bit rough.

Day 5. Woomera to Glendambo. 120 km. Did not make note of any water tanks on way. Stock up in Woomera or Pimba. Open and arid country.

Day 6. Glendambo to bush camp number 1. 144 km. Stopped behind some witchetty bushes in a sandy area just off the road ( chosen because we were tired and couldn't go any further). We passed a water tank 82 km from Glendambo. No other signs of civilization.

Day 7. Camp no. 1 to Coober Pedy. 110 km. Water tank at a rest area about 30 km along from our camp was convenient for breakfast.

Day 8. Rest day in Coober Pedy.

Day 9. Coober Pedy to Cadney Home Stead roadhouse 156 km. (1000 km up.) Water tanks at about 76 km and 110 km points. Getting in to cattle country.

Day 10. Cadney HS to camp 2 (168km) in large off-road rest area just north of Agnes Ck. (no water or facilities except 2 picnic tables and benches. Lunch and water at Marla RH (80 km N of Cadney).

Day 11. Camp 2 to Erldunda(Desert Oaks Motel). 173 km. Lunch at Kulgera RH (93km). Water tank in rest area past Marryats Ck about 30 km from Agnes Ck. (NB creeks are usually dry). Crossed NT border.

Day 12. Desert Oaks to Stuarts Well (Jim's Place)110 km. Water tank at Finke River.

Day 13. StuartsWell to Alice Springs. 90 km. No water tanks seen. Not so common in NT.

Day 14/15. Rest days. Sight seeing around Alice.

Day 16. Alice Springs to Aileron 133 km. No water tanks seen. Crossed tropic of capricorn. Delayed by a pesky puncture repair.

Day 17. Aileron to Barrow Ck. 152 km ( shop and water at Ti Tree 60 km).

Day 18. Barrow Ck to Wauchope. 112 km. (2000 km up). Rest stop at Wycliffe Wells (94 km from BC) where shop and restaurant and water. Cabins for hire. Would be an alternative to Wauchope if tired.

Day 19. Wauchope to Three Ways RoadHouse. 144 km ( brief stop in Tennant Creek ,119 km).

Day 20. Three Ways to Renner Springs. 138 km. Water tank at Attack Ck at 46 km point. Stuart turned back here on his 1st expedition. Undulating country with good views in places.

Day 21. Renner Springs to Elliot. 91 km. Town with caravan parks and shop. Stayed at Midland Carapark.

Day 22. Elliot to Hi Way Inn. 147 km ( on Carpentaria Highway turnoff). Had lunch at Dunmarra Road House at 100 km point. Daly Waters is a town a few km further north, off highway. Didn't investigate.

Day 23. Hiway Inn to Mataranka Hot Springs Resort. 176 km (lunch at Larrimah 91km). Turn off to resort is a few km before Mataranka town.

Day 24. Mataranka to Katherine. 113 km. Water tank at rest area about half way.

Days 25/26. Rest days in Katherine. Stayed at the Beagle Motel. Lots of others. Visited the Gorge.

Day 27. Pine Creek. 91 km. Stayed at Diggers Rest in new cabins. 3000 km up.

Day 28. Adelaide River. 120 km via Hayes Ck and old highway diversion. Stayed in WW2 barrack building next to Adelaide River Hotel, with pleasant garden. Roadhouse at Hayes Ck.

Day 29. Batchelor 42 km. Shops. Motels. Aboriginal College. Stayed in Caravillage Van Park with pool.

Day 30. Bus tour of Litchfield Nat Park. Waterfalls, swimming pools and scenic walks.

Day 31. Darwin. 100 km. A couple of service stations/shops along the way for water and food.

Total on odometer since Adelaide - 3197 km, on 25 riding days.
