Prospect Dam

greystanes aquaduct - now a cycleway Prospect Canal at the Greystanes aquaduct. The cycleway goes along the top of the aquaduct.

From Leichhardt there is now a cycleroute all the way to Prospect Dam. This can be linked with the ride to Fairfield City Farm via a connecting cycle route through Western Sydney Regional Park. For the first section, to Sydney Olympic Park (SOP), via Fivedock and Concord, see here.

For the next section, from SOP to Parramatta, from the SOP Stadium head west behind the Stadium onto Old Hill Rd and turn left onto Hill Rd then right onto the access road into Newington (Wing Pde). Find the left turn onto the cyclepath heading south to the underpass of the M4 (see map)and then follow the path to Adderley St East, which parallels the M4. Cross Silverwater Rd with care at the lights and continue to the far end of Adderley St West, where a cycle path continues under or next to the M4 all the way to an underpass of Church St, Parramatta.

The path continues under the M4 to Holroyd Sports Ground. Exit at Robert and Fox St to Holroyd Gardens. Cross the Gardens and exit onto Pitt St. Go through Merrylands to a right on merrylands Rd, then a left on Addlestone Rd, a left/right onto Denmark and Roseberry Sts ( a Greek Church on the corner of Roseberry and Hawksview). Do a right/left onto The Esplanade and follow to Guilford Rd. Here you can have a break at Guilford shops (to the left) or turn right, to the start of the Prospect Canal Cycleway near Harris St. Follow the cycleway, which is built over or along the old Prospect Canal, all the way to Prospect Dam. You will go over the Greystanes Aquaduct along the way. At the end of the cyclepath there is a picnic area with toilets and water at the foot of the dam. No shop. You have to go a bit further to the right up a hill to see the actual water.

After a rest or lunch in the picnic area the cycle path continues to the left, beneath the dam wall, to an exit from water Board land at Southern Rd. The route continues to a crossing of Chandos St then a cyclepath follows a water channel south through the Western Sydney Regional Park, crossing Horsley Drive, and continuing on to Fairfield City Farm, past the Olympic Equestrian venue.

From here you can follow Orphans Creek cycleroute back to the railway at Canley Vale. Take the train back to the City or ride back via Carramar and Regents Park as in the Fairfield City Farm ride, or head back to Parramatta via Guilford (Liverpool to Parramatta Rail Trail route).
